The Black Designer Brands Fashion Scholarship

We believe in empowering Black creatives. It is literally the first sentence of our Mission. One of the ways we try to do that is by promoting educational and professional growth.

According to a 2016 Brookings Institution study, African-American students take out more loans, and in higher amounts to finance their education compared to students of other races.

For this reason, we’re pleased to announce the Black Designer Brands Fashion Scholarship award. We know that affording education can be difficult which is why we set up our fashion scholarship fund to help aid the cost of attending.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the scholarship applicants must:

• Be a US citizen
• Must not have reached the age of 25 by the application deadline
• Must be currently enrolled or accepted to an accredited college or university in the United States

Graduating High School Seniors and Undergraduate Students

• Must be full-time student
• Must possess a grade point average of 2.5 (C+) on a 4.0 system.

Graduate Students

• Can be a full or part-time student
• Must possess a 3.0 (B) average on a 4.0 system

Fashion Scholarship Program Details

• Program Value: Each individual is eligible to receive up to $1,000 within the four years of the program.

Selection Process & Notification Process

An internal committee will decide on the best-written essay and complete the award by the Fall semester of each year.

How to Apply

• Write an essay of 1000+ words on the topic of “Why Black or African-American Representation in Fashion Matters.”
• Your post must be published publicly online (e.g. student blog on your university website, your personal website, or a blog platform like medium.com).
